Unless I'm missing some info, we're missing a lot of context with the whole universe destroying thing. The summary just says "This also proves to be the beginning of universal destruction". I have no idea what that means. Does it mean losing universes will be destroyed? Does it mean the fights are so intense they can/will destroy universes? Does the information come before or after the fighters are chosen?

I'd just say wait for context before complaining about it. Not that I'd be at all surprised if it didn't end up being some really stupid reason.

Maybe Yamcha and Chaozu didn't want to fight... Characters actually have a personality out of just being numbers for power levels? What a twist.
Them not wanting to fight is just irresponsible though. Everyone knows that old saying. With great power comes great responsibility. A character flaw can make that character and their situation more interesting, if a little contrived, but when the entire universe is on the line, whether or not you want to participate is irrelevant I think. Besides, this would be a good opportunity throw Yamcha and Chaozu a bone. They haven't won a single important fight in the series, sole exception being Invisible Man in Yamcha's case. Yeah, the chances of that happening are next to zero even if they were brought along, but at the very least, Yamcha's loss would surely be entertaining just looking at how that Baseball episode was handled.
